Meet the CTW Staff

Dr. Leslie Altena, DirectorLeslie Altena

Dr. Altena has taught writing at Westminster since 1994 and has conducted research in second language acquisition and writing pedagogy, specializing in theological English at the seminary level. She has also taught composition and English language skills in area colleges, and holds a PhD in Educational Linguistics and an MA in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Altena directs Mastering Theological English and the Center for Theological Writing and serves as a lecturer in Advanced Theological Writing.

Pierce Hibbs, Associate DirectorPierce Hibbs

Pierce is a graduate of Westminster Seminary (MAR, 2010). He has served at the Center for Theological Writing for seven years and has extensive experience teaching theological writing. He specializes in teaching English language skills to speakers of other languages, serving as the lead instructor for the Theological English portion of Mastering Theological English and as a lecturer in Advanced Theological Writing. Pierce is continuing his theological studies in Westminster’s ThM program, in addition to earning his MS in TESOL at Biola University.

Megan Reiley, Curriculum and Assessment SpecialistMegan Reiley

Megan has an MA in Linguistics and a TESOL certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught English as a Second Language for the past ten years, both in the US and abroad. For the past two years, she has taught Theological English in the Mastering Theological English I and II programs (MTE), and she is the lead instructor for MTE's Integrated Skills classes. She also serves as a lecturer in Advanced Theological Writing during the academic year.

Dan SchwartzDan Schwartz, CTW Consultant and ATW TA

Dan is a graduate of Vassar College (BA, 2011) and a current MDiv student at Westminster. He has several years of experience as a writing center consultant. He has worked at the Center for Theological Writing since Spring 2015 as a teaching assistant for Advanced Theological Writing, focusing on feedback and correction, and he has also served a teaching assistant for Mastering Theological English. He enjoys studying linguistics and ancient languages.

 Jordan RobertsJordan Roberts, CTW Consultant and ATW TA 

Jordan is an MDiv student at Westminster, and a graduate of Grove City College (BA, 2010), where he studied English and Christian thought. He has taught biblical studies at the high school level and has experience as a tutor in writing and reading skills. Jordan currently serves as a teaching assistant for Advanced Theological Writing.

Tyler Detrick

Tyler Detrick, ATW TA

Tyler is a graduate of Cedarville University (BA, 2015) and a current MDiv student at Westminster. He worked at Cedarville's writing center for several years, and he has worked at the Center for Theological Writing since Fall 2016 as a teaching assistant for Advanced Theological Writing, focusing on feedback and correction.


Zachary Simmons

Zachary Simmons, CTW Program Coordinator

Zachary is a graduate of Patrick Henry College (BA, 2011) and a current MDiv student at Westminster.
