Westminster is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alfred J. Poirier as Visiting Professor of Practical Theology. Dr. Poirier has served as a minister in the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) for 38 years. He spent the last 26 years as Senior Pastor of Rocky Mountain Community Church (PCA) in Billings, Montana.
Dr. Poirier received his Doctor of Ministry from Westminster Theological Seminary in 2004. He also attended Westminster Seminary California, where he received his Master of Arts in Religion and Master of Divinity in 1983 and 1984 respectively. Dr. Poirier also served as Adjunct Lecturer in Practical Theology (Pastoral Counseling) at Westminster Seminary California for 10 years.
In addition to working in several teaching capacities, Dr. Poirier is the author of The Peacemaking Pastor (Baker, 2006); Words That Cut: Learning to Take Criticism in Light of the Gospel (Peacemaker Ministries); and several articles published in The Journal of Biblical Counseling. His academic interests lie in the areas of pastoral counseling and expository preaching.
Dr. Poirier has been married to his wife, Trudy, for 41 years and together they have three children and 10 grandchildren.
