Special Scholarships


In addition to Westminster scholarships, Westminster administers several specially funded scholarships established by friends of the seminary.  Types of special scholarships are listed below.

GEORGE SINCLAIR SCHOLAR AWARD

Type of Award: Competitive, non-need based award for $10,000 tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: Entering (first-year) full-time MDiv student who:

  • Is committed to seeking ordination in either the PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) or the OPC (Orthodox Presbyterian Church)
  • Has a college GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Subscription to the Westminster Standards

Award period: First (entering) academic year (08-09) only.
(Upon coming “under care” of PCA or OPC Presbytery as a candidate for ordained ministry, award recipient will qualify for the George Sinclair Scholarship or Westminster’s MDiv Ministry Scholarship, both covering 40% of each year’s tuition expenses.)

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout award period.

GEORGE SINCLAIR SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: 40% tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: Full-time MDiv students who have:

  • Undercare status in a PCA or OPC Presbytery
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Subscription to the Westminster Standards

Award period: One academic year only.  Award recipients must reapply each academic year.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout award period.

JAMES M. BOICE SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: $12,000 per year for tuition (balance for living expenses)

Eligibility requirements: A first or second year International MDiv student from a nation with which the sponsoring church, Tenth Presbyterian Church, (Philadelphia, PA), has ministry ties.  First preference will be given to a student who:

  • Intends to serve in a long-term pastoral or other ministry capacity in the Turkic world or
  • Comes from or dedicates him or herself to service among the adopt-a-people group currently selected by Tenth Presbyterian Church

Award period: From first year through completion of program (graduation)

Award requirements:

  • Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout award period
  • Meet with the Missions Commission of Tenth Presbyterian Church twice each year and participate in the annual Missions Conference, held each October

JOSEPH F. RYAN SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: One full-tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: Entering full-time MDiv student preparing for full-time pastoral and preaching ministry.  Preference is given to applicant who intends to minister in an urban environment.

Award period: 08-09 academic year through completion of MDiv program (graduation)

Award requirements:

  • Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout period of award
  • Travel to Park Cities Presbyterian Church, Dallas, TX, once during first year of studies at the expense of the scholarship fund, to meet with Dr. Ryan or other pastoral staff, as requested.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: Full-tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: African-American or Hispanic-American MDiv students who

  • Have demonstrated leadership in an African-American or Hispanic-American church
  • Are supportive of the Reformed Faith
  • Intend to pursue full time pastoral ministry

Academic merit will be a weight aspect of the award.

Award period: 08-09 academic year through completion of MDiv program.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout award period.

MEPHIBOSHETH SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: Partial-tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: Students with physical/sensory disability in any program of study.

Award period: One academic year.  Award recipient must reapply each academic year.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout award period.

PSALM 90 SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: Partial-tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: Student from France in any program of study who:

  • Has a clear commitment to the Reformed Faith
  • Lacks sufficient funds to pay tuition

Award period: One academic year.  Award recipient must reapply each academic year.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout award period.

SOOYOUNGRO CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: $5,000 (estimated) tuition scholarship. (SooYoungRo church sets aside $20,000 each year for several tuition scholarships.  Actual award amount is determined by the church.)

Eligibility requirements: Entering (first-year) or returning but entering a new program, full-time, Korean or Korean-American students.

Award period: 08-09 academic year.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout period of award.

TEXAS CAMPUS MDIV SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: Merit-based 40% tuition scholarship

Eligibility requirements: Entering (first-year) full-time MDiv students in a program of study at our Texas Campus in Dallas.  Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents, and must meet one of the following criteria:

  • RUF internship completed or RUF student with RUF Campus Minster recommendation for scholarship
  • Documented involvement in and/or commitment to African American, Hispanic, or Korean-American MInistry
  • Documented involvement in and/or commitment to International Missions
  • Documented involvement in and/or commitment to Church Planting
  • Documented involvement in process leading to gospel ministry in a NAPARC church
  • Documented potential for significant ministry leadership

Award period: One academic year only.  Award recipients must reapply each academic year.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout award period.

WALTER AND HELEN LEE SCHOLARSHIP

Type of Award: One full-tuition scholarship or two half-tuition scholarships

Eligibility requirements: Full-time student of Chinese descent from Southeast Asia or China, regardless of their country of ministry following graduation.  Preference is given to applicants in the MDiv or higher programs of study and preparing for full-time ministry.

Award period: 08-09 academic year.  Award recipient must reapply for each academic year.

Award requirements: Maintain full-time status and minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout period of award.
