English Bible Assessment

A thorough knowledge of the English Bible is expected of all recipients of the M.Div., M.A.R.(Religion), M.A.B.C. and M.A.U.M. degrees at Westminster. Every student entering the Seminary should do so with as comprehensive a  knowledge of the English Bible as possible.

The English Bible Assessment will be administered to all new students matriculating into the above degree programs during Orientation for Westminster's purpose of measurement. This assessment will not count for credit because it will be used to measure a new student's baseline knowledge and understanding of the Bible at the time of seminary entry. This assessment process will provide Westminster with statistical comparison data of our student body's growth in Bible knowledge from the time of program entry to graduation.

In the event that a student receives a perfect score on the English Bible Assessment, the student will be exempt from the English Bible Exam.

Note: Students will be unable to register for classes until the assessment is completed.

English Bible Exam

Each student enrolled in the M.Div., M.A.R.(Religion), M.A.B.C. and M.A.U.M. degrees at Westminster is required to take the English Bible Exam upon completing one year of full time study (or after completing 24 credit hours). The exam cannot be taken prior to completing 24 credits hours, and cannot be taken later than the end of the winter term examination period of the year in which a student expects to graduate. If a student finishes coursework during the fall semester or winter term, the exam must be passed by September of his or her last fall semester.

The examination will be administered at the beginning of each semester and at two other times during each academic year (see the academic calendar  or below for exact dates). All questions will be taken from the English Standard Version Study Bible in conjunction with the English Bible Exam Study Guide.

If the exam is not passed in the specified time, with a minimum score of 80 percent, the student will be required to take PT 013P English Bible Survey. For tuition charges, see Financial Information.

About the Exam

The English Bible Exam (EBE) is given in order to help both the student and Westminster Theological Seminary evaluate proficiency in the English Bible.

The examination is based on the ESV Study Bible. Copies can be obtained through the WTSbooks  webpage. A study guide is also available:   Westminster Theological Seminary English Bible Study Guide.

The examination is administered online through Kees, Westminster's Course Management System, and consists of 150 questions which are primarily multiple choice questions with some fill in the blank questions. Students will be given 2 hours to complete the exam.

The examination is generated randomly from a pool of 3,000 questions in order to prevent a duplicate exam from being given.

Our desire is that the EBE will be a useful tool in further equipping and shaping experts in the Word.
