Meet the CTW Staff

Dr. Leslie Altena, DirectorLeslie Altena

Dr. Altena has taught writing at WTS since 1994 and has done research in second language acquisition and writing pedagogy, specializing in theological English at the seminary level. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Linguistics and an M.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Altena directs MTE and the Center for Theological Writing and teaches Advanced Theological Writing during the school year.

Pierce Hibbs, Assistant DirectorPierce Hibbs

Pierce is a graduate of Westminster Seminary (M.A.R., 2010) and is continuing his studies in the Th.M. program. He has served at the Center for Theological Writing since 2009 and has extensive experience teaching theological writing and English language skills to speakers of other languages. Pierce teaches ATW I and is the primary instructor for the critical Theological English portion of MTE.




Megan Reiley, MTE FacultyMegan Reiley

Megan has a Master's degree in Linguistics and a TESOL certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught English as a Second Language for the past ten years, both in the U.S. and abroad.





Todd ScacewaterTodd Scacewater, PhD/ThM Liaison

Todd graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2012 with a ThM in New Testament and is currently a Westminster PhD candidate in Hermeneutics and Biblical Interpretation and a Teaching Fellow in New Testament. He has taught Greek and New Testament at Westminster and serves as an adjunct for other universities. He has worked at CTW as a PhD/ThM Liaison since 2013, coordinating and facilitating events for ThM and PhD students.



Deryck BarsonDeryck Barson, PhD/ThM Liaison

Deryck is a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary (M.A.R., 2014) and a current Westminster PhD student in Historical and Theological Studies. He has worked at CTW as a ThM/PhD Liaison since 2014, orientating new Masters-level students to apologetics at WTS and providing interactive feedback for students writing apologetic papers. He also facilitates ThM/PhD Forums and Roundtable events throughout the year.




Zachary Simmons, CTW Program CoordinatorZachary Simmons

Zachary is a graduate of Patrick Henry College (B.A., 2011) and a current M.Div. student at WTS. He has worked at CTW since 2013 providing academic and administrative support for ATW and MTE and coordinating CTW programs.





Andrew Myers, MTE Program CoordinatorAndrew Myers

Andrew is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute where he studied theology and biblical languages.  He is currently an M.Div. student at Westminster and works as coordinator for the Mastering Theological English program. 





Spencer EwingSpencer Ewing, MTE Assistant

Spencer is currently an M.Div. student at Westminster. He has experience working with English language learners and serves as an academic assistant for MTE.






Dan SchwartzDan Schwartz, ATW TA

Dan is a graduate of Vassar College (B.A., 2011) and a current M.Div. student at WTS. He has worked at CTW since Spring 2015 as a TA for Advanced Theological Writing (ATW), focusing on ATW writing feedback and correction.
