Defending the Truth

It was as a young pastor in the early 90’s that I picked up No Place For Truth by Dr. David Wells. That volume not only convinced me of my need for ongoing theological education (seminary!), but it proved to be an informed, cogent, authoritative voice for the burden I was carrying in ministry. Truth seemed to be an inconvenient and relative thing for the church. I wonder if many of you had a similar experience?
That’s why I’m delighted to personally invite you to attend the sixth annual Gaffin Lecture here on campus on March 13. Dr. Wells will deliver a lecture entitled, “The Stupidity of Preaching in the Contemporary Moment.” If you are unable to come to campus, please consider attending via our live stream broadcast (Live Stream). An alumni lunch will follow with Dr. Gaffin and Dr. Wells present, as well as many of our faculty. President Lillback will also give an update on the life of the seminary. You can register for the lunch here.
God has used Westminster Theological Seminary to serve the church and the world for 83 years by teaching, defending, and proclaiming his Word. His truth certainly has a place here and in the hearts of our alumni. I hope many of you will be able to find your way to enjoy this year’s lecture with us.
Partnering with you for kingdom purposes,
Rev. John Currie, MAR, dean of student development and alumni support

Scratching the Surface

Rev. Mark Johnston (M.A.R. ’83, M.Div. ’84), pastor of Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA.
“The first week I was here with a guy from New Zealand, we walked around the grounds of Machen and we said to each other, ‘In three years here, we’ll know everything we need to know for the ministry.’ Providentially, we saw ourselves three years later standing in line ready to graduate, and we looked at each other and said, ‘We’ve only scratched the surface.’”

But for Bryant Parsons, all of these were providentially used by God to lead him to Jesus. Hear from Bryant about how the Lord led him to faith, and also to Westminster to pursue a call to ministry.

Union League Bible Studies

Fridays this Spring at noon
Each year Westminster professors lead a weekly Bible study at the Union League of Philadelphia that takes place September through May. The Union League Bible Study for this Spring will continue to focus on what theologians call the "history of redemption."
