A Westminster Experience

Dustyn Eudaly

This month I’d like you to hear from a fellow alumnus. Dustyn Eudaly (MDiv, '02) is the Associate Pastor at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tampa, Florida, and our alumni representative for that region. While he was on campus last week we interviewed him about his Westminster experience and his own commitment to supporting the seminary. I think you’ll find Dustyn’s comments about how his education has shaped his ministry insightful and encouraging. You might even find yourself getting a little nostalgic about your own days at Westminster.

Class Notes

Rev. Timothy Loi Wai Lam (MAR '87), has retired from Senior Pastor of Swatow Christian Church, Kowloon City, Hong Kong as of January 1, 2012, and is now Honorary Advisor-Pastor.

Dr. Bob Roane (MAR, '81; MDiv, 82) taught at the East African Pastors Conference in January for pastors in Kenya and Tanzania under the auspices of Global Field Evangelism (“GFE”). GFE has planted 70 churches in this region. The conference theme was “God-Centered Life” under the four headings: God, Guilt, Grace, and Gratitude.  Most of the pastors have no formal training, so the teaching provided an overview of Christian Systematic Theology, mixed with help in practical ministry. Bob also serves as Teacher-Pastoral Counselor-Evangelist with Words of Hope Bible Ministries in Houston, Texas and teaches at Belhaven University in Houston. "I'm grateful for the good teaching that I got at WTS and am happy to pass it on to other brothers!"

The Alumni Office at Westminster is always interested to hear  how the Lord is using you in ministry. Drop us an email anytime at alumni@wts.edu and share what’s new in your life.

Loving the Way Jesus Loves

Loving the Way Jesus Loves

New Book by Rev. Dr. Phil Ryken

Alumnus Rev. Dr. Phil Ryken (M.Div. '92), president of Wheaton College, has recently published a new book: Loving the Way Jesus Loves. "Most people are familiar with the "love chapter" of the Bible, 1 Corinthians 13, yet expositor Phil Ryken has something new to say. Drawing on the earthly life and ministry of Jesus to illustrate Paul's several statements about what love is and isn't, Ryken brings a Christological approach to this commonly quoted passage."

Together for Theism?

Rev. Dr. K. Scott Oliphint

A blog post from Rev. Dr. K. Scott Oliphint on Reformation21.org.

"A non-Christian friend of mine recently returned from a trip overseas. When I asked him how his trip was, he looked me in the eye and, with finger pointing and shaking in my face, steadfastly declared to me, 'There is no God.'....For him, the suffering that he saw was so overwhelming that it was a sure and certain indication that God could not exist. My response to him was very simple, and it stopped the conversation (at least for a while). I simply said to him, 'What makes you think that God is responsible for such things?'"

Student in the News

Jomo Johnson

Jomo K. Johnson (M.Div. '12), featured in the February 7 issue of, The Philadelphia Inquirer.

M.Div. student Jomo Johnson was featured in the February 7th issue of The Philadelphia Inquirer recently concerning his church and his book Deadest Rapper Alive: The Rise of Lil' Wayne and the Fall of Urban Youth.  Jomo shows in his book that the life and lyrics of Lil' Wayne have been a focal point in the downfall of much of urban culture.

Return to Uganda

Abel Wankuma-Kibbedi

An update from Westminster Alumnus, Abel Wankuma-Kibbedi (M.Div., '11)

Immediately after graduation, I left for home (Uganda) with my family. We were fearful of so many things. After four years at Westminster, we did not know what life would be like at home. There were many political riots at the time, so we came back amidst a lot of uncertainties. I remember praying with a Westminster faculty member, and he has encouraged me with his constant prayers. God is faithful to do what He promised – we have settled in well. Uganda feels like home again, even though we miss America.

Embers to a Flame

Revised and Expanded Edition. Expounds biblical principles that, if applied to even the unhealthiest church, the Lord can use to take the church 'from embers to a flame.'

Whether your church is healthy or struggling, the biblical principles in the book point the way to greater spiritual vitality. A pastor, seminary teacher, and conference speaker, Harry Reeder has long specialized in church revitalization. He deftly alerts us to potential problems in our churches, helps us to recognize our weaknesses and opportunities, and guides us in applying biblically based strategies for rekindling the flames of godly growth.

"I highly recommend this book. Harry Reeder is well qualified to write on church revitalization. He has seen two churches dramatically revitalized under his leadership and has for years coached other churches in the principles through seminary and ongoing consultation This is an extremely important area, and Harry is an expert in the field."
- Frank M. Barker Jr.
