All New Alumni Association!

Alumni Association

This year Westminster graduated 111 students equipped for service in God’s kingdom. The entire class of 2011 is new members of the Westminster Alumni Association (WAA). That’s because, as of this year’s commencement, the WAA and all of its benefits are free for all of our alumni.

We’ve done away with tiered membership with dues so that now, when you register for the alumni association, you receive free shipping from wtsbooks.com, the monthly Point of Contact newsletter, Westminster Today magazine, access to the online theological library resource ATLAS, and (in the near future) an Alumni e-mail address. Our hope is that this approach will enable us to better serve our alumni and encourage your renewed connection with each other and the seminary.

A new page has been created for the alumni association here. If you are not already a member of the WAA I invite you to visit it and register today. All that is required is that you update your information here annually to keep receiving your membership benefits.

Partnering with you for kingdom purposes,

Meet a Graduating Student

Chris Brown

Chris Brown, MDiv, General Ministries Emphasis

Chris chose Westminster because of our “top-notch education… I wanted to be pushed, where teachers knew more than me and I would just be blown away at times. Coupled with that, you need godly men and women. I’ve known people who’ve been through Westminster and I trust those people and look up to them.”

His twin brother, Steve, also studies here at Westminster. As Chris says, “you can’t beat that...to study together.”

So how is Westminster set apart from other seminaries?  “I wanted to go where the professors really got deep into the Word of God. When we don’t go deep, we’re missing something, there’s a richness there, a depth and I wanted a faculty that would give me a taste of that”.

Alumnus Geoff Thomas Receiving Doctorate

Rev. Geoff Thomas

Rev. Thomas (MDiv '64), who will be speaking at the 82nd commencement and will receive an Honorary Doctorate, recently answered a few questions about his time at Westminster, and about his faith in Christ.

"I had taken Biblical Studies at University taught by a wholly liberal faculty. I knew that there were answers to the perplexities they spelled out, and that Dr. Stonehouse and Dr. E.J. Young would be able to help: I had read their books. The scholarly, academic, as well as the exegetical foundations laid down for me at Westminster were enormously reassuring, stabilizing and motivating."

Redeeming Sociology

Redeeming Sociology: A God-centered approach

Redeeming Sociology advocates a biblically informed model for human relationships—relationships rooted in the Trinitarian character of God, his governance of the world, and his redemption accomplished in Christ. ALUMNI FREE SHIPPING

Your alumni buying privileges at the Westminster Bookstore continue...

This book is now on Sale until June 1 for only $5

Publisher's Description: Hoping "to get us to open our Bibles again when we think about apologetics," K. Scott Oliphint probes six Scripture texts on the subject. He summarizes their message as follows:

"Since Christ is Lord, and the battle is his, we are always ready to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. We are to use the weapons, not of this world, but of the Lord. We are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ as we demolish the arguments, with gentleness and reverence, of those who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, exchanging the truth of God for a lie, worshipping created things, rather than the Creator…"

Endorsement: "Most of us who want to be faithful witnesses know we need—but often lack—three things: a clear understanding of the truth, the ability to express our message persuasively, and confidence that the gospel has nothing to fear in the intellectual market place. As a skilled seminary professor who has also served in the trenches of pastoral and evangelistic ministry, Dr. Oliphint is well qualified to give us just the help we need."
- Sinclair B. Ferguson, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Systematic Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary
