Regional Alumni Reps

For the last few years Westminster has dreamed of having a Regional Alumni Representative (RAR) in regions of the country where there is a high concentration of the seminary’s alumni. Our desire has been to better serve our alumni by identifying RARs who would function as the contact person for Westminster events in their region, meet with local prospective students, and attend the meeting of the Westminster Board of Trustees to serve as the ears and voice of WTS alumni.  I’m thankful that we now have three alumni who have volunteered to serve the RAR in the region where they minister. Dustyn Eudaly (MDIV ‘02), Associate Pastor of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tampa, Florida will serve the Central Florida region. Kyle Oliphint (MDIV ‘99), Pastor of Grace Community Presbyterian Church in Ft. Worth, Texas will serve the Ft. Worth-Dallas region, and Scott Strickman (MDIV ‘02), Associate Pastor of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in New York City, will serve as RAR for that city. I will be continuing to approach other alumni about serving as the RAR where they minister and will be meeting together the entire team this fall, to pray and strategize together on how Westminster might grow its ministry to our alumni.

As I sign off, please remember that the Westminster Alumni Association and all of its benefits are now free for all of our alumni. When you register for the alumni association, you receive free shipping from www.wtsbooks.com, the monthly Point of Contact newsletter, Westminster Today magazine, access to the online theological library resource ATLAS, and (in the near future) an alumni@wts.edu email address. A page has been created for the alumni association here. If you are not already a member of the WAA I invite you to visit it and register today. All that is required is that you update your information here annually to keep receiving your membership benefits.

History of the OPC

Fighting the Good Fight

Westminster founder Dr. J.G. Machen's influence in helping the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) form 75 years ago deeply roots our relationship.

InThe Presbyterian Conflict, a book that chronicled the events that led up to the founding of the OPC in 1936, Edwin H. Rian wrote that the OPC "is what its name implies, truly Presbyterian.... It is a church devoted to the Bible as the final authority for faith and practice and convinced that only through the sacrificial death of Christ upon the cross can men be saved."

"I think Westminster is very unique.  I think it's unique in its commitment to make sure that we are producing the next generation of pastors who know how to handle the Scripture, who know how to proclaim the Word of God, and who know how to give pastoral leadership.  I believe that's our number one calling, that is what we're here to do."

Jesus divided the world into two groups--those who follow him and those who don't. But what happens when someone thinks he or she is a Christian, but isn't? With his witty, engaging style, Mike McKinley takes readers on a journey of what it means to be a Christian. He asserts that "manipulative evangelism techniques and a poor understanding of the gospel have resulted in an abundance of professing Christians who have no idea what it means to follow Christ."

Each chapter title begins with "You're not a Christian [if/when/just because you]..." As he surveys what it means to be Christian, McKinley offers criteria for evaluating one's standing before God. Readers are guided through a series of challenges to reflect, repent, remember, and report to another person. Am I Really a Christian? ends with chapters on salvation and the local church. This unique book is written for nominal or new Christians and can be used in personal or small-group study.

“This is a truly important book in the most urgent sense—a book that serves the cause of Christ by raising the most important question human beings face, and helping to answer it, no less. I am thankful to McKinley for his faithfulness and for the pastoral concern that prompted him to write such an important work.”
- R. Albert Mohler Jr., President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
