A New Semester

I may have told you before that the big take-away for me from my Westminster education was the ability to see, love, and preach Christ from the scriptures in ways I did not have in my years of ministry prior to Westminster. Yesterday we invited a new group of students to discover that 'unfolded mystery' as we welcomed incoming students to the spring semester.
These new seminarians were oriented first of all to what Westminster is centrally about. They heard from 1 Cor. 1:2 what it means to be in Christ as they make their pilgrimage through this season of life in seminary, in this world. They were then oriented to how the Westminster education works through Dr. Vern Poythress’, now classic, presentation on the scheme of Westminster’s curriculum and its connection to spiritual life. Jayne Clark (Associate Dean of Student Development) encouraged the new students about the practicalities of life in seminary. Finally, the entire administrative team took care of the nuts and bolts of registration and orientation with a spirit of service and excellence.
Every time I have the privilege to participate in one of these events I am reminded of Westminster’s unique, God-given legacy and the commensurate responsibility for the future to prepare faithful, fruitful, leaders for Christ’s church. Every group of students that we see represents rich giftedness, so much gospel opportunity, and so many souls that will be touched through their future ministries. As I often do, and will continue to do, I ask you to take a few moments today to pray for these students, their faculty, and the seminary, that we might be enabled by God to steward our time together for God’s glorious purpose in his Son, in this age and the age to come.
Partnering with you for kingdom purposes,

Wrestling with God

Jesse Robinson, M.Div – General Studies
Asked how his cerebral palsy has impacted his walk with the Lord, Jesse says, “It’s a weakness that has required me to trust in God with a unique intensity. I’ve had to learn to be comfortable with weakness and suffering … This condition has also caused me to wrestle with God. We all wrestle with God, but there’s an intensity and freedom I have in dealing this out with the Lord, because he’s the one who has given me this condition."
